Teacher Ahlam Al-Ashqar, one of the participants in the capacity-building project for teaching staff under the Nour Program for the Care of Gaza’s Orphans in Deir Al-Balah, says:
“The training helped us organize our ideas and provided us with clear concepts and strategies that we can apply in the classroom, especially during times of crisis. We have become more aware of students’ needs and of the importance of giving them a safe space to express their feelings, while responding to them with awareness, care, and understanding.
The training also provided us with space for ourselves—to pause for a moment, reflect on our own needs, and learn about the importance of self-care for teachers. This has had a positive impact on our presence in the classroom and on our ability to provide children with a safer and more reassuring environment, while supporting them in coping with difficult circumstances.”
The project is being implemented in strategic partnership with Taawon Foundation as part of the educational interventions under the Nour Program for the Care of Gaza’s Orphans. The program provides children with comprehensive care, including education, psychosocial support, health services, protection, and social care.
This intervention includes training of trainers and professional development workshops for female teachers, with the aim of strengthening the capacities of teaching staff and equipping them with the tools and strategies needed to respond to children’s educational and psychosocial needs, and to provide them with a safer and more supportive learning environment during times of crisis.
The project benefits 80 female teachers across 12 community learning centers in the Gaza Strip, contributing to the improvement of the quality of educational services provided to children through the Nour Program.
