Teach for Palestine and Birzeit University Explore Ways to Strengthen Collaboration
A meeting was held at Birzeit University bringing together Teach for Palestine, represented by Chairlady of the Board Dr. Tafida Jarbawi, Board Member Dr. Rifa’ Al-Ramhi, and Dima Shahrour, Director of Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation, and Birzeit University, represented by Vice President Dr. Asim Khalil, to discuss ways of strengthening joint cooperation.
The meeting opened with welcoming remarks, followed by a presentation by Dr. Jarbawi outlining the organization’s work, vision, and mission. She also introduced the Educational and Leadership Capacity-Building Program for teachers of the lower basic stage (grades 1–4), which aims to contribute to providing high-quality and inclusive school education for Palestinian students.
During the meeting, discussions addressed the current state of general and higher education in Palestine, the importance of professionalizing the teaching profession, and strengthening integration between universities and civil society institutions to implement joint initiatives to improve education quality. Emphasis was also placed on enhancing the practical component of graduates’ preparation, giving attention to general education alongside higher education, advancing digitalization in education, and keeping pace with modern trends such as climate education.
Dr. Jarbawi emphasized the importance of establishing national partnerships, particularly with universities, as they serve as incubators for graduates and a primary source of young talent. Newly graduated students, she noted, represent an important entry point and a key pathway for benefiting from the organization’s programs and engaging in its future projects.
For his part, Dr. Asim Khalil expressed his appreciation for the program and its positive impact on developing the educational process, affirming Birzeit University’s interest in supporting such high-quality initiatives that serve students and graduates, open new opportunities for development and skills-building, and enhance their readiness to enter the labor market. He also stressed the importance of continuing coordination and further developing areas of cooperation in the coming phase.
