"Teach for Palestine" Holds Second Session in AI and Education Dialogue Series

"Teach for Palestine" holds the second session of its dialogue series on Artificial Intelligence in Palestinian Education. This initiative, part of a broader series featuring local experts in the field, aims to shape a vision for the institution’s future interventions, particularly in training new teachers—especially those working in early primary education. The dialogues seek to align the institution's work with both current and future challenges driven by rapid technological advancements, especially those related to AI. The outcomes of these sessions will also inform the development of the institution’s internal policies, enhance its teacher training programs, and lead to the publication of a position paper on this critical topic.
Dr. Tafeeda Jarbawi, Chair of the Board of Directors, opened the session by summarizing the key outcomes of the first session and outlining the discussion themes for the second. She emphasized the importance of proactively addressing the impacts of AI in education, given the pace of technological development. The second session focused on the opportunities, benefits, and future roles emerging from AI advancements, before delving into the potential risks to the education system and strategies for mitigating those risks.
In his contribution, Dr. Abdel Aziz Khalil highlighted the potential benefits of integrating AI into the Palestinian education system, including reducing teachers' administrative burdens, enhancing teaching and learning strategies, improving assessment tools, and personalizing educational content to suit students’ individual abilities and needs.
Dr. Areej Jaber addressed key challenges to AI integration, such as bias in outcomes based on input data, reduced human interaction, and overreliance on AI tools that may compromise information accuracy. She outlined approaches to overcome these challenges, including investment in training, strengthening partnerships, and developing flexible national educational policies capable of adapting to technological change.
Following the expert interventions, a rich discussion took place in which participants stressed the importance of early preparation to manage AI-related risks, raise societal awareness, and ensure equitable access to educational technology. Participants recommended boosting awareness among all educational stakeholders and developing targeted teacher training programs to strike a balance between leveraging AI opportunities and managing associated challenges.
The session was attended by a group of experts from Palestinian universities and the private sector, as well as members of the Board and executive team of "Teach for Palestine."
